Friends daughter turned 16, so we bought her a 1998 Jeep XJ for $2,300. She loves it. We put about $600 into it. She just realized the AC doesnt work. She is ready now to flip it. She asked for a CRV or RAV. I just realized that 08/09 Vue’s have plummeted in value.

Kinja'd!!!

We are selling a rusted 98 XJ with 150k for $4500, and buying an 08 Vue with 110k for $4500. I love dead brands. Final model Mariner's aren't even that cheap yet.

By me they’re that much. I love and hate Jeeps. I want one, but can’t justify the price.

I believe in most of the US, Jeep products "bottom out" around $4k-$5k, or a couple grand more for Wranglers. It's crazy, but it's true.

Good choice...I'm always a fan of "cheap car on expensive platform." This is a base model Cadillac SRX in my mind. (EDIT: My mistake on the platforms, the SRX was car-based, not Antara-based)

I’m a little confused. Who wants to get rid of it? The parent or the daughter? Either way, run with the damn windows down!

On a more serious note, and general curiosity, why an SUV? Wouldn't a Camry/Corolla/Accord/Civic suit the daughter just fine? I just don't really see the need to have an SUV if you don't need one. But, that's just me.

That is insane! Bring them a few hundred miles south and double all those prices, at least. A motivated car flipper with a gooseneck trailer could probably do just that.

My dad rented a Captiva a few years ago, and it was surprisingly nice and roomy. I’d suggest a used one of those instead, because it might have features such as a backup camera, etc. that the Vue won’t have.

The RAV4 is a good choice, too. Nice car to drive. Terrible A/C system, though.

I can’t stand these pieces of shit. I dated a girl who had a Vue who made me drive a lot. It was a piece of hot garbage to drive and a major pain in the ass to park.

Fast forward a few years, and I get a Captiva on a week long trip in California, and I remembered how miserable they are to park.

TL;DR - Run

Seriously. I can't sniff a Wrangler around here under 3500, and that wouldn't have any floorboards.

Why would you want to get rid of an XJ?

Almost two years on I still miss my mom’s 2008 XR V6. It was perfect in terms of size, height, and power. I still swear up and down it had better build quality than her ‘14 Fusion she has now, and used materials similar in quality.

Take it to a dealer and make sure the recall on the transmission has been done. If we would've got that letter two weeks earlier we'd still have ours.

Little jealous that you have so many cheap XJ’s close to you. Ive been trying to track down a 4x4 XJ for a decent price for a while now.
